Financial Controller (35)



Our client is looking for a qualified accountant who has experience working with small or medium companies to lead and manage the day-to-day transactions of the finance team.

This role will report to the Operational Director and have direct line management of 2 team members. The purpose of this role is to support the growth of the business through managing the day-to-day finances and monthly reporting as well as providing analytical insight. The role will also support, from a financial perspective, new business ideas and projects.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ownership of the day-to-day transactions of the finance team, including authorisation of BACS payment.

  • Manage and support the development of the finance team.

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including detailed monthly overhead reviews with budget holders, quarterly reviews and forecasts, and completion of balance sheet control account reconciliations.

  • Lead the yearly budget process.

  • Accountable for weekly cashflow reporting, review, and management.

  • Review and authorise payroll, ensuring it is paid by the deadline.

  • Complete quarterly VAT returns, accurately and timely.

  • Prepare and issue all HMRC required information in a timely manner, and check the online HMRC regularly to identify and resolve discrepancies.

  • Review and implement financial controls and processes as needed.

  • Liaise with external advisors e.g. auditors and bank.

  • Work with other departments to improve accuracy of analysis and reporting.

  • Provide business finance support and analysis as required.

  • Actively contribute to commercial meetings and reporting.

  • Own the closing out of the year-end position and year-end reporting

Person Specification

  • Accounting qualification i.e. ACA, ACCA, CIMA.

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly.

  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently at all times and under pressure.

  • Ability to encourage a high level of performance in self and others.

  • Honest and discreet, with the ability to keep information confidential.

  • Self-starter, capable of using judgement to prioritise and plan own workload.

  • Leadership and management skills, with relevant experience.
