Head of Accounts Payable (50)

We are recruiting for a Head of Accounts Payable, based in our Bath office, joining a friendly and hard-working team.

Job Purpose: To provide a first-class Accounts payable service to the business, our suppliers and our contributors. Reporting to the Finance Operations Director and supervising a team of 10 AP assistants.  Ensuring the accounts payable team operates effectively and efficiently, supporting a fast paced and growing business with operations in the UK and the US.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team leadership of the accounts payable function: Managing performance by setting targets/KPIs and allocating tasks
  • Process Lead for identifying, recommending and delivering system and controls improvement across the Groups AP processes
  • Accountable for delivering the teams service level agreements with the business and third parties
  • Responsible for reporting the key performance metrics (including team productivity metrics and backlog tracking) and delivering strategies to maintain and improve service levels
  • Act as a point of escalation for queries from the team and other stakeholders; investigating and helping resolve issues efficiently and expediently
  • Responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of a Purchase Order process
  • Responsible for the expenses policy and expense claim process and payment
  • Accountable for integration of acquisitions relating to the transactional finance activity
  • Other AP tasks: responsible for accuracy of invoice and payment processing / payment run approvals / Accounts Payable ledger close / support clean supplier master data / contribute to a clean AP ledger / maintain process documentation / ensure key controls are performed / risk and fraud review / PO training documentation and support for the business / supporting audit request / ad-hoc reporting

What do I need to succeed?

Experience of Heading up an Accounts Payable function with Purchase Order processes
Experience of working closely with IT to deliver systems development to enhance controls and efficiency.

Experience of supervising a team, and performance management
The ability to motivate a team in a fast paced environment
Service focused approach to supporting the business; experience of delivering service level agreements and reporting on Key Performance metrics
Excellent communicator with the ability to manage escalations, queries and complaints with constructive communications with all levels of stakeholder Confident and Proactive attitude
Strong attention to detail
Ability to interrogate data quickly and accurately
Knowledge of Concur purchase order system / Concur Expense
Strong Excel skills
